When Sammy Hodgett was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia three years ago, it was a devastating blow for his family. Little Sammy was only 8 years old when he started chemotherapy. Tragically, his body reacted negatively to the chemo, so doctors had no choice but to put him into a medically induced coma for six weeks!
Life wasn’t the same for Sammy when he came out of the coma. He had to learn all over again how to walk, talk, eat, and perform normal, daily functions that most people take for granted. Through it all, it was Blake Shelton’s 2013 song, Boys ‘Round Here that became his theme song and anthem during his road to recovery.
It made perfect sense when the Hodgett family reached out to Shelton, asking if he would make their little boy’s day and meet him when he was in town on February 23. The country star took to his Twitter to let Sammy and his family know that he would be honored and was looking forward to it.
Hey Sammy!!! I can’t wait to meet you buddy!! https://t.co/qyD2GbzJMq

Sammy’s dreams came true last month when he finally met the man whose music got him through one of the hardest experiences of his life. Sammy even gave Shelton a shirt to remember him by.
After the meeting, Sammy’s father wrote a letter to Shelton saying, “Sammy has been smiling non-stop ever since the concert last weekend. Every morning he asks if we get to go see Blake again today.”
