No matter who you bring up Betty White to, there’s always the inevitable “She’s still alive?” Yes, she’s still very much alive. She just turned 96, but she still has the youthful energy of a 50-year-old. Just recently she shared with the world her secret sauce behind living to such a ripe age and still having such effervescence.
“First of all, keep busy. And don’t focus everything on you, that wears out pretty fast. It’s not hard to find things you’re interested in, but enjoy them and indulge them, and I think that can keep you on your toes.” She went on to say that a happy, healthy person should indulge in every moment of their life and just savor it.
“Enjoy life. Accentuate the positive, not the negative. It sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say, ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.” When it comes to the things that she likes to indulge in, there are two things that immediately come to Betty’s mind: vodka and hot dogs. “Probably in that order.”
On a more serious note, Betty touched on the need to live life with as little regret as possible. “I’ve been married three times, and I probably still would have been married three times, even if I knew what I know now.” At her age, she’d never consider remarrying, though she’s acknowledged that she might “fool around.”
As long as she still has the energy, she’ll go on for as long as she can, as far as she can. “I know it sounds corny, but I try to see the funny side and the upside, not the downside. I get bored with people who complain about this or that. It’s such a waste of time.”
