Ask any gaming enthusiast what the most cherished and enduring game is in existence and they’ll more than likely say “Mario Kart” quicker than Mario can race across the Rainbow Road. Its invigorating pace and colorful style has turned it into a true classic, though a game that historically could only be played on a Nintendo device.
Well, not so anymore. Nintendo has heard your pleas and they’ve began development on a brand-spanking-new mobile game:
<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>The checkered flag has been raised and the finish line is near. A new mobile application is now in development: Mario Kart Tour! <a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/MarioKartTour?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>#MarioKartTour</a> Releasing in the fiscal year ending in March 2019. <a href=”https://t.co/8GIyR7ZM4z”>pic.twitter.com/8GIyR7ZM4z</a></p>— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) <a href=”https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/958876622517452801?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>February 1, 2018</a></blockquote>

It should come as no surprise that his announcement was met by exuberant praise from the fan community, those who have been Mario Kart-less ever since their Wii consoles broke down from overuse. Now you drive off the edge of the Rainbow Road from the comfort of your own toilet — but you’ll still be just as frustrated as ever.
Nintendo has insisted for the past few years that they’d never bring their popular properties to mobile, but with the extreme rise in smartphone usage increasing by the year Nintendo finally decided to just bite the bullet and make the switch (no, not the Nintendo Switch). The company did attempt to release some mobile games last year — Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run, and Miitomo — but none of them quite made the splash that Nintendo was aiming for. No doubt that Mario Kart will make that splash they’re looking for….and create a tidal wave!
Based off of their tweet, Mario Kart Tour will be released sometime between April 2018 and March 2019.
