Johnny Depp sued his former business representatives, The Management Group, back in January for various financial misconduct including collecting fees without his knowledge or permission. But Depp should have known not to mess with business folk, because they retaliated by filing a countersuit which is now exposing the famed actor’s impulsiveness and uncontrolled behavior with his spending habits.
While one of the most bizarre tidbits included Depp spending $3 million to blast Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes out of a canon, one of the more saucy bits of information to come out of the lawsuit were allegations that Depp keeps a sound engineer on his payroll that feeds him his lines on set.
Depp is known for never watching himself in his own movies, but he apparently doesn’t even want to bother with memorizing lines anymore. Reportedly, he spends upwards to hundreds of thousands on a yearly basis to keep his man on payroll.
Other “less absurd” items that the actor spends his wealth on include his purchase of 14 houses, 45 luxury cars, 70 guitars (be sure that at least a couple of those belonged to his idol Keith Richards), and more Hollywood memorabilia than would fit into all 14 luxury homes.
The Management Group is now suggesting that Depp should submit to a mental health evaluation during the proceedings. “Depp’s extravagant spending has often been marked by a lack of impulse control. In retrospect, it appears that Depp may suffer from a compulsive spending disorder, which will be proven in this action through a mental examination of Depp … and expert testimony.”
