Harry Potter fans, join together in sorrow, for Cornelius Fudge has passed away. Actor Robert Hardy died at the age of 91 and is survived by his three children.
For those familiar with the Harry Potter franchise, Hardy may not have been an integral part of the story, but he was nonetheless a very important part of it. Having shown up in four of the eight films, his character played a key role in the growing and gnawing fear that gripped the wizarding community in the wake of Voldemort’s return, while his line “He’s back!” remains among the more quoted moments in Order of the Phoenix.
Other than Harry Potter, Hardy was also well known for the BBC drama All Creatures Great and Small as well as Sense and Sensibility. He was even awarded the honorable CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 1981 for his excellence in acting!
His surviving children penned a most eloquent eulogy for their father: “Dad is also remembered as a meticulous linguist, a fine artist, a lover of music and a champion of literature, as well as a highly respected historian, and a leading specialist on the longbow. Gruff, elegant, twinkly, and always dignified, he is celebrated by all who knew him and loved him, and everyone who enjoyed his work.”
