It was the bomb dropped and heard throughout America— pregnancy bomb, that is.
Jordin Sparks announced in late November that she was expecting her first child with her husband, Dana Isaiah. That’s when the second bomb dropped because no one was aware that Sparks and Isaiah had wed in mid-July. Isaiah, who is pursuing a modeling career, was excited to broadcast the baby news.
“We’re both really excited,” Sparks said. “He’s been like, ‘I want to shout it from the mountain tops!’ We’re really proud to be married to each other and to be celebrating this.”
The couple bonded over their Christian faith and love of family. After a month of talking, Isaiah hopped a flight to LA and met his future wife during the Easter weekend.
“A couple days after we had actually met, I was like in my head, ‘That’s going to be my husband! That’s my husband right there,’” said Sparks.
When it came to boundaries, Sparks and Isaiah decided to honor their faith by not moving in together until they were married. “When I’m with him, I feel comfort and safety and calm and peace, and those aren’t things that I normally felt. So it was a little wake-up call for me.”
The pair wasted no time getting to know each other and, while on vacation in Hawaii, they eloped in the presence of a small group of friends. Yes, the wedding was a shock to even their parents. Just one month later the couple got their own shock when August rolled around and Sparks became pregnant.
“It was about five days after he moved to L.A. He comes in and I go ‘I’m pregnant.’ It was such a shock for both of us. I turned around and started bawling in the closet,” explained Sparks. “It’s been really crazy because everything changes. Everything has been so crazy and fast-forward. Once we got over the initial shock of it, now again just like it is with the marriage, to be able to share that this amazing thing is happening, it’s such a great thing. We did this together!”
Isaiah officially relocated to Los Angeles and Sparks couldn’t be any happier about her new little family.
As for how she is feeling about the baby weight, she is loving her baby bump.
“I’ve always loved my curves. Now I have different ones and I’m excited about them. For the past month, it’s been this in-between stage where I’ve been taking a hair tie and clipping the hole of [my] jeans onto the little buckle,” Sparks says. “It kind of helps open them a little bit. Then that stopped working and I was just like ‘Babe, can I wear your sweatpants?’ I’ve been wearing his sweatpants all the time!”
Best of wishes to Isaiah, Sparks, their marriage, and their first child.
