When Mamma Mia! hit theaters in 2008, it was a smash hit! Sure, it’s not the most realistic film ever made, but what musical usually is? Regardless of the cynics, the majority of its viewers fell in love with Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and the rest of the all-star cast rocking out to ABBA classics while accompanied by beautiful views of the Greek Isles.
The original film was adapted from the extremely successful stage musical, and a sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, is currently in the works. Now, it’s been confirmed that Cher has been added to the cast for the new film, heightening fans’ excitement and anticipation for its release.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will be Cher’s first onscreen role since 2010 when she had a leading part in Burlesque. It also sees Meryl Streep and Cher come together for the first time since Silkwood in 1983. Both actresses received Oscar nominations for their parts in the film.
