Everyone’s favorite home remodeling and design couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, have declared that they will no longer grace our TV screens with their talent and charm in the form of their hit show Fixer Upper. When the show premiered in May of 2013, it only took a few short episodes for us to fall in love with the wonderful couple and their many adventures transforming surrounding neighborhoods in Waco, Texas.
Now, we must say goodbye…
The couple wrote a post on their blog explaining their decision saying, “It is with both sadness and expectation that we share the news that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be our last. While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with. Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place.”
Following the success of Fixer Upper, the couple looked beyond the TV show, expanding their business to include their own furniture line, magazine, real estate company, luxury vacation rental property, retail compound Magnolia Market at the Silos in Waco, and even a New York Times best-selling book with a second one hitting shelves soon.
“Our beautiful children are growing up so quickly,” Joanna shared in a video announcing the decision. “The idea that we get to step back, get fresh with vision, get some rest, and hunker down with our kiddos is something that we’re excited about.”
While many fans are in distress over this news, some believe this isn’t the end. There’s been some recent speculation that the couple was unhappy with their contract with HGTV and will be looking to land a better one with Discovery.
HGTV is owned by Scripps which is currently being bought out by Discovery Communications, so perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for us yet. In fact, the couple ended their statement saying, “We believe in our hearts that we’re going to see you again right around the corner, so stay tuned.”
